Sketch concept of Happi. Still iffy. Oh well. Concepts, hooray.

This is something I’m trying to get into the whole “character design” thing. So let’s meet my first attempt; Shovel Knight fan character Paddle Knight. Keep in mind, I’m not REALLY keeping him, but this is a good example.

The first picture is the first sketch. Here we see his main design; a knight in a boat. He was given a (poorly drawn) sun hat and his main weapon is a paddle inspired by the paddle weapon Nightmare in Soul Calibur 2 used.

The second sketch is redesigning his outfit. Instead of a generic armor, I went for a coat underneath, but he has chest protection from the first sketch. Also looking at size compared to his paddle. I sort of strayed from the concept of a pedalo…captain?

Finally, we have what I would call his final look. This would be his “intro” animation, his boat has capsized “due” to the player (Shovel Knight?). It’d be a glass cannon situation; he takes a single circle of damage from the weapon, but he’s agile. His paddle is usually resting in the boat, but he uses it near half health. His other skills would be throwing his hat for long range and merely swinging his arms up close. He’d be like Tinker Knight if I wanted him to use his paddle like I mentioned earlier.

I’m not an expert, but it’s important to keep this in mind. Don’t stick with the first design, which I’ve done in the past. Oh, also, I don’t know how to draw armor, hence why I replaced his arms, but that might have been a better idea on the design standpoint.

So, an odd concept for the zipcoats; Upon death, they leave behind a coat that is supposed to be immediately burned. If it comes into contact with a human (ie: being put on), it’ll transform them into a sort of zombie/zipcoat hybrid. Unlike the other ones, which are normally intelligent to some degree, these ones are merely murderous monsters. They have the durability of a Shambler and have no DX version, but the “zombies” have variants, such as long arms, monstrous faces, even rotted corpses. Approach with caution.
There are actually some who are immune to the effect, which can’t be explained. It should be tested, however, for obvious reasons.

I hindsight, I’m glad I added some meat to the Shambler. Holy crap dude, you looks super lame. Stop being lame.

This looks kind of crummy, but meet the Aviator, a big dumb bird thing. The thing in the hand annoys me now. It was originally some kind of blob, but now it’s a giant egg. I quit. Now, because I have access to it, next to it is the old version I drew like 2 years ago. Birbs for everyone.

So the sketch of the next creature. It’s a massive bird with wing hands. The tongue makes me giggle. I can’t decide if it has an actual “mouth”, and if I do, does it open horizontal or vertical. These are my thoughts.

Kind of a height comparison chart for the three monsters I’ve introduced. The Shamblers can stand, but it’s more of an idle, they’re unable to “walk” like an ordinary person. And yes, cute Imbibing Glutton. Damn you.

Despite the Imbibing Gluttons origins, I drew a small chibi version and it’s freaking adorable. This is illegal, you should not be cute, alcohol addiction based monster.

Random shitty doodle I did. Someone take my tablet away, I think I’m an artist.

Out of boredom, I’ve been making sprites for RPG Maker VX Ace based off of a zombie apocalypse setting. We have: A swiss army knife, a grenade, a hazmat suit, a crowbar, some boltcutters, and someone’s empty wallet. Keep in mind, these are just icons, so in the inventory, they’d look decent.
